Aftercare

Proper aftercare is essential to the healing and longevity of your new tattoo or piercing. Here’s the no-nonsense version — save it, print it, follow it.

Tattoo aftercare

Your artist will tell you which wrap you have — follow whichever applies.

First 24 hours
  • Leave Saniderm / second-skin on as long as your artist advised (often 1–3 days).
  • If wrapped in standard bandage, remove it after a few hours — don’t re-bandage.
  • Remove any wrap gently under room-temperature running water.
First 2 weeks
  • Wash 2× a day with lukewarm water and fragrance-free antibacterial soap; pat dry.
  • Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion 2× a day — thin, not slathered.
  • Don’t pick or scratch scabs, and keep it out of direct sun.
  • No soaking — skip pools, lakes, baths and hot tubs until fully healed.
Watch for infection
  • Pus, hard nodules, spreading redness, swelling, chills or fever mean see a medical provider.

Piercing aftercare

Body piercings
  • Clean 2× a day with sterile saline — soak or spray, then pat dry with clean gauze.
  • Don’t twist, spin or play with the jewelry while it heals.
  • Keep makeup, lotions and dirty hands away from the piercing.
  • No pools, lakes or hot tubs until healed.
Oral piercings
  • Rinse with an alcohol-free antimicrobial or saltwater rinse after meals.
  • Use a fresh, soft toothbrush; eat soft foods for the first few days.
  • Avoid alcohol, smoking and spicy foods early in healing.
Questions?
  • Call the shop at (320) 204-8838 or stop in — we’d rather hear from you than have you guess.

When in doubt, call us — and always follow the specific instructions your artist gives you in person, which take priority over any general guide.
